An Apology
The primary for responsibility for this volume is P. C. Joshi's who, for quite some time, had gone on insisting that I should collect my little essays in English. Naturally, I was diffident, as I am only a modest writer of Bengali verse and some prose. What little, rather unsatisfactory prose I had to write in English, I did because I was urged upon to write by friends like Hiren Mukrjee. I was once, unconventionally enough, asked by Srimati Indira Gandhi to write on folk dance and folk art!
