IN THIS STUDY I have tried to probe into the different aspects of class formation among adivasi ( tribal ) tea plantation workers. Though objectively they form a class, being sellers of their labour power, inter - tribal division among the workers encourage a dichotomy which separates their homogeneous economic life from their heterogeneous, stratified social life . This ,coupled with the isolation of the plantation and relations between labour and management , which are pre - industries in nature, make the problems of class formation diffused and complex.
