The lives of scientists are seldom interesting. Flashes of brilliance in childhood, an impressive academic career, a few medals, awards and honorary degrees constitute the essence of a scientist's life. His personal life might be tragic or comic, but certainly does not deserve our serious attention. Yet Frenderic Joliot Curie,s life is fascinating and heroic form beginning to end. The first half of the twentieth century saw a rapid development in Nuclear Physics. Joliot was always in the forefront extending its frontiers. On two occasions he had come close to the winning of a Nobel Prize--for the discovery of 'Neutron' and 'Positron'. He finally succeeded for his discovery of artificial radioactivity.He was one of the foremost in recognising the importance of atomic energy. There is little doubt that had not the second world war intervened, the first self-su staining chain reaction and the eventual construction of an atomic reactor would have been achieved by his team.
