The people of North West Frontier Province had made rich contributions to the cause of India independence as they struggled persistently for it for more than three decades. Although conducted mainly on the lines of mass movement, the popular struggle in the Frontier was now and then shifted- in varying degree and style- to the legislature. My chief concern in this study has been with the legislature politics in North West Frontier Province between 1932 and 1947, from the creation of a provincial legislature in the Frontier to the termination of the British Raj. I have surveyed the activities of the N. W. F. P. legislature during this crucial period and tried to assess them with reference to the then prevailing national and local circumstances. The chapter of this book provides an outline of the administrates, socio- economic and political conditions of the province to serve as a background.
